University Teachers : Intellectuals or Pen Drives?

An average #Indian #academic stinks. Why? Because he is #anti_academic or
#anti_intellectual in his thought and action.
When does he get united and on what kind of issues is indicative of his anti-intellectual attitude.
Take ,for example, the near unanimous opposition by the teaching community to the four-year-undergraduate program (#FYUP) in the #UniversityOfDelhi. The FYUP envisaged:
*choice-based-credit-system;
*involvement of teachers with student groups on live problem-solving research projects;
*exit option with graduate degree after three years; and,
*honors degree with grounding in research leading to one-year masters degree which is in synch with the emerging system of education (10+2+4+1) globally.

The points on which teachers across the ideological spectrum opposed include:
*it flouted the university norms,
*it was based on inappropriate consultations,
*it was more time-consuming and hence costly for the student community,
*it entailed hasty restructuring of syllabi,etc.

Most of these points pertain more to the process or form and less to the content.
And what led to the #magical_unity among the otherwise highly divided, mostly along #ideological_lines, #UniversityAndCollegeTeachers?

They were united in their apathy to taking #SocialProblems head-on by way of #StudentProjects that involved intellectual openness, academic rigour and, above all, developing a
#basket_of_perspectives (as opposed to the #dominant_perspective) approach to problem-solving.

Trained in and addicted to the #Exclusivist or the #Dominant_Perspective or the
#Semetic_Approach to looking at the challenges facing the society, these university and college teachers are too anti-intellectual to accept anything that is new and that they don't know already.
Their fool-hardiness apparently made the pro-change VC bite the dust but actually they have succeeded, with the help of the govt whose job it was not, in imposing nothing short of Academic Emergency in the country with a clear message to those who wish to bring in fresh air to the university system: Act not Think as a VC or a Dean or a Principal.

In the language of computers, they are mere #HARD_DRIVES,  not even search engines, which are
#incapable_of_upscaling.
