RamTemple or Babrimasjid ?

Santa: I am quite confused about #Babrimasjid .
Banta: It is about a Ram Temple that Babur's commander Mir Baki demolished to raise a mosque over it in Ayodhya in 1528.
Santa: Nothing unusual. Even Mathura & Kashi Temples had to make room for mosques that still exist. But there is no such hullabaloo about these two.
Banta: These two mosques still have respectively Lords' Krishna & Shiva temples side by side while that in Ayodhya was buried under the mosque known as Babri Masjid.
Santa: Was it in regular use?
Banta: No. The Naga Sadhus had been raiding the visiting Muslims right from the mid 16th century and finally mosque went into disuse but the local Hindus and Muslims continued to lay their claims over the site as their respective places  of worship. The Britishers didn't let the issue go out of hand till the last moment.
Santa: So the current problem has post-1947 angle to it?
Banta: Yes. In 1985 the then PM Rajiv Gandhi signalled the opening of the locked disputed area for use by the Hindus.
Santa: Why did he do so?
Banta: Under under attack from the opposition for succumbing to pressure from fundamentalist Muslims to annual the Supreme Court ruling
in the Shahbano case( in which her
ex-husband was ordered to pay alimony in view of her old age and five children. The Muslim zealots were up in arms against it on the ground that the judgement was in conflict with Islamic laws.) the poor Mr. Clean did so to placate enraged Hindus. But this sent BJP into panic mode.
Santa: Why?
Banta: They feared losing their traditional Hindu votes to Congress and thus to clinch the issue from Congress  pressed for building a Ram Temple where the mosque now existed. Under the Vishva Hindu Parishad(VHP) they launched a nation wide campaign for the same.
Santa: What was the govt. of the day doing?
Banta: Wait and watch. Finally despite heavy security the #Babrimasjid was pulled down on the 6th of December 1992 with Congress govt.  at the Center and BJP govt. in the state of UP.
