AAP will steadily eat into the base of anti-Hindutva 'Secular' parties

With AAP getting 67 out of 70 seats in Delhi and BJP the remaining 3, it is natural to assume that the former has vanquished the latter. It is not so for sure. The leaders of the two organizations are political siblings of the same great Indian middle class that, riding on the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare, took a grand entry into the huddle muddle of politics. And, AAP will steadily eat into the base of caste-based anti-Hindutva Secular parties such as Congress & Mulayam's Samajwadi Party and thus shielding the national political space for BJP from early dents. A quick look at two elections will tell us more: 


General Elections-2014
It was a proud moment for the Indian democracy. The middle class across the
caste and religions had voted for a party and formation that was capable of responding to the aspirations of the young India that is 70 % of  the total population.  You have  JANATA that came out to lead the political leaders left with no option to doing what they were supposed to. The key factors:
a. 30-crore strong middle class that mostly rose over the caste and religious lines reducing the artificial SECULAR-COMMUNAL divide to a nautch;
b. 12.5 crore first time voters;
c. Anna and AAP movement that inspired the young into joining politics that forced the BJP to accept a relatively young politician like Modi as their PM candidate; and,

d. The hunger of the young for a party that could restore their identity as a nation. Contrast this with the INTELLECTUAL DISDAIN for anything Indian.

The nation ushered into a new era of politics where you would not be ashamed of celebrating Holi, Eid etc along with Christian New Year wherever you wished to. From Dharma Nirpeksh to Sarvapantha Sambhav, that is what the new mantra would be...

Delhi Elections-2015

All across the country the non-NDA formation had to contend with the Modi wave during the general elections 2014. However, in December 2013 Assembly elections in Delhi, it was the other way round: Modi had to contend with the AAP- tide. To his credit, he inspired the near-dormant Delhi-BJP into a Phoenix-like rise and acted as check-dam between AAP and the much needed majority for a stable government. 
In run up to the Delhi elections -2015, its almost a repeat act. Sitting on the crest of AAP-tide was Arvind Kejriwal locking horns with his erstwhile Anna-movement colleague Kiran Bedi as BJP CM candidate who perceived as one of the detractors of AAP rather than a politician organically connected to BJP. Voters fondly remember what they experienced during the short-lived 49 days' AAP rule: the near absence of HAFTA they had been paying to the police earlier and so also the Delhi govt BABUS openly pooh-poohing BRIBE. They also recall the much talked about ( but never-verified ) celebrations in Police Stations after Arvind Kejriwal resigned as CM of Delhi. 

Finally, what has kept AAP in good stead is its birthing ground being Delhi with which the party is pretty much identified and familiar in terms of the its changing demographics over the last 25 years: number of voters from Bihar and Eastern UP has surged to 40 lakh ( 1/3 of total voters) and thus pushing the erstwhile dominant Punjabi migrants and Jats to the margins. No wonder, AAP gave the highest representation (11) to this new segment as compared to only 3 by BJP.

The Dil of Young Dilli appears to have melted for its once- jilted LOVE  Kejriwal while that of the Seasoned Dilli may have rooted for Modi. In the end, it is Anna who would have the last laugh for having metamorphosed the political landscape of India in general and Delhi in particular with one of his prodigies occupying the seat of Delhi's CM not for just 49 days but full five years.
